Paul Feller started working as Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Illinois Chicago in 2022 and is currently a Musicology Ph.D. student at Northwestern University. He is also a member of Northwestern’s Medieval and Jewish Studies Programs and holds an M.A. degree in Musicology from the same university. Since 2019, Paul has worked with Cesar Favila at UCLA, exploring the musical lives of cloistered nuns in colonial New Spain. His research primarily focuses on northern-European Jewish–Gentile musical interactions in the early-modern world and music throughout the Spanish colonies. He was the recipient of the Society for Seventeenth-Century Music 2022 Irene Alm Memorial Prize for his examination of the musical representation of Jewish masculinity in Italian comedies and has most recently published on the presence and function of 18th-century opera contrafacts at the Amsterdam Grand Synagogue. Other work to his credit discusses the Indigenous engagement with 16th-century European sacred music in the Guatemalan Highlands.
