About

Renée Vogen is a Chicago based freelance horn player and teacher. She performs regularly with groups all over the Midwest including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Renée is also a member of the Chicago Philharmonic, and is Third Horn with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra.

Renée is committed to building a variety of musical communities. In addition to teaching at UIC, Renée teaches applied horn and coaches chamber music at Northern Illinois University and Concordia University Chicago, and teaches Upper Brass Methods at DePaul University.
Renée’s wanderlust has taken her to China, where she was a teaching fellow alongside Yo-Yo Ma at the Youth Music Culture Guangdong in Guangzhou in 2020; Iceland, where she played as a substitute musician with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in Reykjavîk; and Italy, where she performed with the Gil Evans Chamber Jazz Ensemble, a headlining group at the Umbria Jazz Festival in 2012.

Renée has given masterclasses and lectures all over the country including at the Eastman School of Music, Western Michigan University, Illinois State University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Penn State University. Renée received her Master’s degree at DePaul University and her Bachelor’s degree, Performer’s Certificate and Arts Leadership Certificate at the Eastman School of Music.
